Motherhood Shmotherhood

I'm working on a little something new that you can read about and discuss on the blog: Motherhood Shmotherhood Blog

Harajuku Lovers Fragrance

Here is a great project I worked on. It is a campaign for Gwen Stefani's new fragrance line. I served as lead lighter and shading artist for the duration of my work on this project.

MTV Tr3s:

So here is something cool I got to do some lighting on, at PandaPanther. It was for MTV Tr3s' Top 20 Countdown.

Happiness Factory II:

Wow, I really should update this site. Well, I recently had the honor and pleasure of doing some lighting on "Happiness Factory - The Movie" at Psyop. (Relax, it's not really a feature length movie, but it is a very cool Coca Cola spot.)

Click the image to see the spot on the Coca Cola website. And if you want to know what I actually did on it, see my reel and shot breakdown.

Gecko:

Here is a little animated poem I posted on YouTube. I should put the high quality QuickTime up here - maybe I'll actually get to that sometime - but for now here is the YouTube version; hope you like it. Don't forget the sound, so you can hear the poem.

Model of Elderly Man's Head:

I worked on this bit by bit, just trying to get a head model together. Done completely in ZBrush. (Just rendered in Maya, but it's a really basic un-tweaked render.) The detail - that's all geo baby!! And the edge loops enable animation; the Z-spheres were helpful.

I can't wait to play with ZBrush 3.

New images of Orlando:

Yes, he has a name now. My friend Michal Barnea has named him Orlando. I've made a new version of him all in NURBs. Still needs work...

I put it in the same section it was before - here.

"Divine Proportion" - My Thesis Project

This is my thesis project at NYU. Hope you like it.
This is the version I handed in to the school, but I still want to polsih and improve certain things. (When I look at it, all I see are the little messed up parts I'd like to fix!) So anyone who sees this and wishes to comment, please feel free. You might notice something I haven't, and I'd be grateful. I also worked most of all on what it looks like playing on a dvd player, with a TV or our projector at school, so new things become apparent when playing it on a computer.

Thanks to all my teachers and fellow students at NYU, CADA. Thanks to the very talented Daniel Laufer for composing this music for me, and to the very talented Michal Barnea for singing the vocals.

Locke from "Lost"

This television show is so addictive. I've started making this model of one of the cast members, Terry O'Quinn, who plays John Locke.
I started this in ZBrush and brought it into Maya. Then, because I'm trying to learn about NURBS patch modeling, I broke it up and converted it into NURBS patches, and did more sculpting when it was in NURBS. It's challenging for me to sculpt the patches without causing seams and gaps between them.

He isn't finished. This took me four hours of work so far. (The NURBS patch thing is time consuming for me.) This is just a screenshot, not even a render.
I've never tried to make recognizable people, without orthographic photos to match it up to. I think it's a good skill to learn.

Orlando (formerly known as Polygon Man)

This used to be a polygon man, my first attempt at a complete human body. I'm trying to learn about anatomy - muscle placement and proportions, that kind of thing. I want to make him a muscle-bound girlfriend next. You know, so he won't be lonely. They can work out together at the virtual gym. :)

I created a very very basic mesh for this in Maya, then did the sculpting in ZBrush. Later I redid it in NURBs.
(And hey, he's nude, so consider yourself warned... in case you don't want to see nudity in art)

Welcome to the Age of ZBrush!

Forgive me, I tend to be dramatic. I've just started learning ZBrush. It rocks!
These are just some works in progress. I have so many but they are not that good yet...
(They don't have eyeballs yet. I know. Gross.)

Preview of Florence the Angry Wasp:

I'm working on something that involves my modeling a house, and modeling and rigging a wasp. This is just a preview because it's been ages since I updated this website, and new stuff is piling up.
It's been a challenge trying to design something to please someone else rather than myself, which is what this project is, but it's really important experience.
Pay no attention to the render quality, like I said, it's just a preview, I'm not even done modeling yet. Oh and I'm going to try to texture this too.

CourtTV Promo (on spec):

This is something I did in class. I've uploaded a pretty compressed version so the quality suffers a bit...

Turntable movies:

I made some little turntable animations of some of my models. They are in QuickTime format. If you don't have QuickTime, you can download it here for Windows and here for Mac. It's free of course. Those links might offer you iTunes as well, but you can skip the iTunes part if all you want is to view QuickTime movies. Enjoy...
(Click on a thumbnail to open the movie. Please be patient with load times, especially the one with the phone - it's the longest movie.)

Maxi the (extremely short) Movie:

Here is a fun animation I made; actually this isn't a 3D thing. I combined 2D planar animation with stop motion animation. The dog is a teeny thing made of pipe cleaners, which I photographed in different poses with a digital camera. The background through the window was done the same way. And I added some "special effects" - sparkles and smoke and stuff. I wanted it all to look sort of childlike and homemade, with sketchy lines and different textures.
The movie has sound, so turn on your speakers or headphones.
This movie stars Maxie Safdie and Orit Beitner, who did the voices. The beautiful music is by Gadi Finegold. Thanks for all the help guys! I couldn't have done it without you.
And thanks to Molly Levine for her helpful input on the script and sound during recording.
Now, it's a big file so please be patient with the load time... But it was really fun to make, childlike as it is, and hope you'll manage to download it.

Messerschmitt:

This is a type of fighter plane originally flown by the Nazis in World War II. Later on, Israel obtained a few of these planes and they were the first Israeli fighter planes. You can read about this interesting bit of history on the Israeli Air Force Official Website. (The site, of course, has an English version.)

I haven't had much time to really perfect this model, and I didn't do that much with the texturing and the compositing, but I like it. It's all NURBs, and it's my first model of a vehicle.

Here I've taken an original photo, the smaller image below, as a reference. I airbrushed out the original plane and put in my own, at a slightly different angle. I tried to make the plane look like a bit like old photo, to match the background.

This is a collage of images from old issues of the Israeli Air Force newsletter. I got them from the Israeli Air Force Official Website. And the big plane in the middle is - again - my own.

Flute:

Flute with flower- and leaf-themed keys. Done with subdivision polygons.
(Here, and in all the other black and white pics, the point is the shape - not the textures and shaders... So I didn't do anything too fancy with those.)

Combination cell phone / makeup compact:

This is a humorous, imaginary product. It is a combination flip-phone and makeup compact. Made completely with nurbs, just because I like nurbs for this kind of thing.

Here it is closed.

And you can flip it open to talk, and there is a mirror surrounded by lights, like a movie star's. The buttons and screen, on the bottom section, glow. Note also the little camera over the screen, for video-calls on speaker.

You can also open several parts at once - like here, where you can have all the different makeup compartments open at once.
