Framed Valentine's Day Picture

We all know the standard Valentine's Day tokens of affection - flowers, candy, and cards. These are all lovely, but if you want to do something a little different, a little more personal, here's an idea.

Find a favorite picture of you and your valentine together. Put the picture in a simple frame. A wooden frame painted a solid color will probably work best.

Find some small objects to use to decorate the frame. Try to find something meaningful, such as little seashells if the picture was taken at the beach, some bits of white lace if it's a wedding picture, or stickers depicting your valentine's favorite cartoon characters. If nothing like that comes to mind, you can always use any pretty little things, like rhinestones or buttons. Use your imagination.

Glue the decorations to the frame, concentrating them at the corners of the frame. If you only have two or three decorations, arrange them at two diagonally opposite corners.

Take a gold or silver magic marker, and write a special message to your valentine across the frame. You can write the first half of the message across the top of the frame, and the second half across the bottom. If you don't know what to say in your message, consider a quote from a romantic poem.

You can doodle little romantic designs along the sides of the frame. If you're worried about freehand drawing, you can always create a little heart stencil and use it to draw hearts along the sides.

If you wish, you can coat your creation with some clear varnish. Before doing so, remove the picture and the glass from the frame, so that the varnish won't stick to them, and don't put them back again until the varnish is thoroughly dry.

Happy Valentine's Day!
